Blogging Tip to Live By
on 08 Feb 12
There are millions of blogs in the world and if you have one, you are simply adding to the growing pile of the publics online writing. But with so many different blogs out there, how are you ever going to promote yours to the point where you will have regular readers?
This tip is probably the easiest one of all, and it will have you saying Tony, you idiot, I already knew that. Thats fine (although I would prefer to keep the name calling to a minimum), but remembering this tip will be one of the greatest factors to your blogs popularity.
Here it is:
Make quality posts, and make them often.
Sounds simple enough doesnt it? When thinking about this in principle, it sounds like a plan that is so easily attainable that you will start to dream of the different advertisers that will be lining up to get space on your valuable blog. The sad reality of it is the fact that many people are not capable of handling the workload that goes into creating strong posts almost every, if not every, day.
Believe me, we’ve tried. We have started blogs with the idea that well create posts every day and sooner or later the readers would start flooding in. After about a week of coming up with strong content, we eventually just run out of steam and our minds became a barren wasteland of weak ideas and writing that has horrible, unforgivable errors of many varieties. Sadly, we have left many blogs to fend for themselves in the wild, most likely to die in the abyss of the internet.
But none of that has to happen to you or your precious blogging children. Yes, I am now referring to blogs as children (I figure it will drive home the sentimental value). The key to coming up with great writing day in and day out is your ability to find a niche. Write about something you know, essentially. Have a profound knowledge about the auto industry and why they keep sticking us with gas guzzlers? Blog about it (I for one am dying to know). Proving you are as close to an expert on a subject as possible will bring you plenty of respect in the blogging community.
Additionally, do not try to take on too much at once. Start with just one blog and make sure you can handle the writing load. Once you get that under control, you can begin to think about another blog (or more) and begin linking between the two. Therefore, the network grows and more and more people will see your blog its a beautiful thing. See Life Cycle of a Blog Post for a great visual of a blogs life.
So, in order to create entertaining and memorable blog posts, set aside enough time in the day for you to sit down and create some superb work. Believe it or not, successful blog writing takes a great deal of time, but the pay-off will be much better in the long run. People will want to know your opinion about cats or, perhaps, different brands of toilet cleaner! Best of all, blogging makes useless knowledge suddenly spring back to life into relevancy.
